This Elephant is called "Nawam Raja", a domestic elephant in Sri Lanka that belongs to the very famous religious temple in Colombo, “ Gangaramaya”. It has participated in many religious processions in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, it had got the opportunity to serve the " Dalada perahera, the most important Buddhist annual procession in Sri Lanka where theTooth relic of Lord Buddha is carried by the main Elephant in the Kandy temple.
A couple of years "Nawam Raja" also got the opportunity to carry the sacred Relic Casket. Therefore, Nawam Raja is one of the well-known and most loved domestic elephants in Sri Lanka.
